Marlborough District Embroiderers Guild welcomes all traditional and contemporary textile artists especially embroiderers.
MARLBOROUGH AND DISTRICT EG
SUMMER EXHIBITION
held on Saturday 23 June - Sunday 24th June 2018
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR MEMBERS ON A SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION
I am sure that everyone will be unanimous in joining me to say well done, Ann Smith for coordinating and masterminding another successful exhibition! As usual the support of a hard working team of helpers, volunteers and exhibitors, too many to name individually, was invaluable before, during and after the exhibition turning the chaos behind the scenes into an effortless and smoothly run event. Much praise and admiration was expressed regarding the vast array of skills and techniques exhibited in the diverse craftsmanship of the artwork, the workshop and design to stitch displays and the demonstrations. Many compliments were also received concerning the helpfulness, warmth and friendliness shown by our members to visitors on reception, stewarding, serving teas and demonstrating different techniques. We should also feel proud and honoured that quite a number of members from other EG branches considered it worthwhile to visit our exhibition including the well-known textile artist and author Jan Messent, who was very positive about our exhibition.

Another challenge with great potential for interpretation! Following last year’s response the judging panel are hoping for even greater creativity and imaginative portrayal of a subject which promises even more inspiration for infinite possibilities. Suggestions put forward include: tattoos, the internal body, cultural and religious pattern, rhythm of life, mosaics, patterns in nature, the changing seasons, to name but a few. If you are interested in submitting an entry full details can be found on the Guild website and on the branch noticeboard. The closing date is February 28th 2019, so there will be plenty of time once our branch exhibition has finished to focus on a new project. As there are 7 awards in total, given for various aspects of merit, there is also potentially greater scope for success!
